Church Balk Playing Fields Play Group
It is with great regret that the group is to close from the
beginning of December. This is due to the fall in numbers and
reflects that more nursery facilities have developed in the area
over recent years. The group has run form over 30 years
in the Church Balk Pavilion and latterly in the Church Balk
Community Centre. Many of our former youngsters and parents have
made the Church Balk journey and experienced the beginnings of many
social and educational activities.
Thanks to all parents who have supported the Play Group over the
years and indeed to all those who have helped run the group at
various times. Very many thanks to Ann Serfozo who founded the
group and maintained an organisational interest for all of its
existence, and to the recent helpers and organisers.
Whilst the closure marks the end of an era what pleasure and
enjoyment have been provided by a very valued group in our
community. A very sincere thanks to all the organisers
and helpers over the years.
Edenthorpe Scout Group
User printer cartridges and old mobile phones.
The Scout Association has joined Eurosource Europe to allow Scout
Groups throughout the UK access to The Scout Recycling Appeal which
is an innovative recycling programme.
The programme leads to the Scout Community badge, which is achieved
through an understanding of the community. Another benefit is that
the Scout Groups can raise funds through the programme. All we
have to do is collect used printer cartridges and old mobile phones,
things that many homes and offices throw in the bin.
Edenthorpe Scout Group is taking part in this programme.
John Abson at Costcutter on Church Balk, and Ian Biggs at Edenthorpe
Post Office on Thorne Road have kindly agreed to allow their
premises to be collecting points. Alternatively contact David
Sykes (Group Scout Leader) on 882919.
Church Balk Community Centre
The Parish Council
have recently revived the Centre and refelted all the roof and have
also made grants to Edenthorpe Panthers Junior Football Club towards
pitch maintenance work.
Note: The Church Balk Centre is available during the day for
organised events. If you have an activity or group
meeting in mind contact the
Parish
Clerk on 883311.
Planning Applications
The Council have written to request a meeting with senior Planning
Officers in relation to various planning applications which have
been granted in recent years and which have caused certain problems
to other residents.
Criminal Activity
Residents are reminded that the dark winter months are usually the
peak periods for crime. Please lock your doors, close
windows, leave lights and TV on, lock cars, keep presents away from
window viewing. Make life difficult for the criminal.
Cyclists
Please put some form of lighting on your bikes during the winter
months. Parents a life saving present for Christmas could be a
reflector or reflecting lights. Make sure your youngster can be seen
on the dark nights.
Congratulations
To Julie Bright, formerly of
Hungerhill School and
now of Hall Cross. Well done Julie on your canoeing
successes in 2004. Julie achieved a Bronze Medal in the European
Junior Canoeing Championship - the result of much hard work,
dedication and determination and the support of her family.
Speeding Cars
Many complaints are increasingly being received about excess speeds
along Church Balk, Cedric Road, Ridgewood Avenue, Lyndale Avenue and
Fieldside. Many of the offenders are regular users of
these roads - some actually display "Beware - Baby on Board" signs.
Several number plates have been noted and are to be passed on to the
Police. A plea to speeders 'PLEASE SLOW DOWN - IT COULD BE A
MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY WHO COULD BE HURT". It is
suggested that if possible note the numbers of the regular offenders
and pass them in to the Parish
Council Members, Safety Warden or Community Police.
