Parish Council News

Law and Order

Young people behaviour.    The majority of our young people continue to be a great credit to themselves and their parents.   Unfortunately, a small minority are causing problems in respect of wanton damage, vandalism, graffiti, under age drinking etc.  It is stressed that it is a small minority.   Unfortunately some parents when approached refuse to accept any responsibility for the actions of their offspring.

In recent weeks the Community Safety Wardens and the South Yorkshire Police have taken action against some groups and individuals.   A number of ASBO's have been issued.    The Parish Council have been advised that a zero tolerance policy towards anti-social behavious is to be implemented.

General Crime

It is appreciated that the problem remains of being able to make quick contact with the Police and this results in many residents giving up when trying to make complaints or report incidents.   Our Safety Wardens Karan and Mark and Community Constable PC Nicky Fulton are keen to be informed of problems.   Obviously some problems require a direct contact to South Yorkshire Police, but if less urgent contact:

  • Safety Wardens - 01302 884132
  • PC Fulton - 01302 386118 (Armthorpe Police Station)

Planning

In view of the dissatisfaction expressed by many residents and Parish Council members alike at recent planning decisions in the village the Council requested a meeting with the Head of the DMBC Planning Department at which the fact that it appeared that the opinions of Council Members and residents alike were ignored during the planning process.

Village Maintenance

The Parish Council have requested that the Community First Team provide schedule for the undertaking of environmental maintenance in the Village, including the strimming of Hungerhill Lane and the Mere Lane bridal path, hedge trimming and the removal of litter.   A litter bin has now been obtained for the village green area.

Rubbish Skip

General garden rubbish, household items etc at the Cedric Road Community Centre - Saturday June 25th 9.00am to 2.30pm.

Make it a worthwhile exercise and fill the skip, and another if possible.

Allotments

Currently there are no vacant plots, but if you wish to put your name on a waiting list please contact John Howard (01302 882592)

Bonfires

The Council have received a few complaints about bonfires.   Residents are asked to consider neighbours in nearby homes when burning - ash, smells, smoke - especially when windows are open and people are spending more time outside in their gardens.   A little consideration could prevent annoyance and inconvenience.

Job Vacancy

The interior girderwork requires painting.    The Committee would like to hear from anyone who would consider undertaking the job on a paid basis, could be done on odd days or all at once.  Involves some ladderwork - Contact John Howard 01302 882592.

Jeff Louth

On behalf of many of the older residents a note of appreciation is made of Jeff who recently passed away.   He did much for many individual organisations and groups over the last 50 years, especially in later years for the Community Centre.   Truly one of the real helpers of the village.   He will be remembered by many for his help and kindness.
