Edenthorpe Community Safety Wardens

KARAN FOX AND MARK JACKSON

As you are aware we cover Edenthorpe, Kirk Sandall and Barnby Dun.  I am sure some of you will have seen us patrolling around your village. The biggest part of our job is patrolling, being a high-visibility presence on the streets to try and reduce crime and the fear of crime. We do deal with other issues too, such as fly-tipping, graffiti, noise nuisance, etc.

If we feel we do not have the expertise to deal with a particular case we have the necessary contacts within the Council and with other external agencies to resolve the matter. We can also visit you in your home to give you a home security survey, where we will look at your current safety and crime prevention provisions and may give advice regarding locks, etc.

Also we do quite a lot of work within schools. We have presented at Edenthorpe Hall School on a number of occasions and are currently involved with putting in place litter wardens at that school, whom we have interviewed from the top year group. We have also been into Hungerhill to talk to the pupils there about drugs, under-age drinking, etc, and they now know that we are operating at “zero tolerance” with this and also litter. They have been told that if caught with alcohol it will be poured away.

Mark and I work a varied shift pattern, those shifts being 9-5pm, 12-8pm and 2-10pm. We are not a rapid response team, we cannot be expected to attend at every incident as soon as it happens.

However, from time to time we will be available when you call and will do our best.

I know there are some of you who feel that you never see us, and in fact, PC Nicki Fulton, in Edenthorpe, but I can assure you we do patrol Edenthorpe as much as Kirk Sandall and Barnby Dun. There are a number of places that we consider to be “hot spot” areas and we visit those places every time we come into Edenthorpe. One of these is the Tesco superstore on Thorne Road, where we are experiencing a lot of youth nuisance problems at this present time.

We are working very closely with their security staff to rectify the problem, and a few more ABC`s (Acceptable Behaviour Contracts) will be issued by PC Fulton in the near future.

We hope to be able to provide information for this web site regularly, in the meantime we can be contacted on Don. 884132 if there is anything you wish to speak to us about or if you have are experiencing problems of any kind.
